Property Overview
The BankNote Building is a 420,000 square foot former industrial building located off the Bruckner Expressway in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx. The building, which consists of three distinct interconnected sections, was built in 1911 and is the former home of the American BankNote Company which used the building for printing US and foreign currency and securities. The property was designated a New York City Landmark by the Landmarks Preservation Commission in March 2008.
Investment Strategy
Taconic acquired the property in December of 2007 on an off market basis. The property will be redeveloped into a functional commercial hub for the "creative sector" which consists of non-profit groups, charities, artists, galleries, architectural, engineering and media firms, in addition to traditional for-profit office and retail tenants. The building's high ceilings, large arched windows, views of Manhattan, wide column spacing, ample loading locations, and large floor plates, will appeal to a wide range of tenants and uses. The base building improvement program will include new windows, elevators, bathrooms, mechanical systems, security systems and improvements to the landscaping and parking lots. Upon completion, the BankNote Building will offer tenants reasonably priced and architecturally distinctive commercial loft space close to mass transit and a short trip to Manhattan.
Building Amenities
Access to Transportation: The BankNote Building is located adjacent to the Bruckner Expressway in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx and is in close proximity to the 6, 2, and 5 subway lines.
Flexible Floor plates: The three distinct sections of the BankNote Building offer flexible floor plates and layout options which appeal to both large and small tenants for a variety of different uses.
